The first edition of The ODD Occasion kicked off on the 19th November, as we welcomed 70 friends to an evening of creative inspiration from some of the best minds in the industry.
The ODD Occasion was thought up to find a way of celebrating the methods behind creative madness, with each occasion hosting a collection of brilliant minds sharing insights and learnings from some of their most admired projects.
For the first edition we welcomed four very different speakers from different industries, all of whom create uniquely inspiring work. Each speaker was tasked with exploring the ever-complex process of how they got from an idea to the finished project, sharing the joy of the undoubtedly messy process as well as behind the scenes details of their projects.
First up was directing duo, ‘US’, who took us through the complicated process of creating the award winning ‘Icons’ commercial for The Sunday Times. They were followed by digital product designers ‘The Workers’ who took us into the world of robots as they explained their amazing project which enabled the public to control robots situated in the Tate Britain at night, steering them around the deserted museum, whilst broadcasting their adventure and live commentary to the world.
After the break Neil Hubbard from Heatherwick Studios took to the stage to share some of the stunning and ingenious work that they do, from architecture, furniture and engineering to sculpture, transport and urban planning. We had a behind the scenes look at how the new iconic Routemaster bus was created, from inception through to manufacture.
Rounding off the evening, illustrator Mr Bingo gave a unique presentation which had the entire audience crying with laughter, focused on how he came to be known as the ‘The Justin Bieber of drawing’ and sharing some insights on how his recent project ‘Hate Mail’ has become such a success.
Thanks to all our speakers and everyone who came along – The ODD Occasion will be back in 2015.
