The second instalment of The ODD Occasion took place on the 3rd June, as we welcomed colleagues, clients and friends to an evening of creative inspiration from some of the best minds in the industry.

The ODD Occasion is a quarterly event which celebrates creativity, each occasion hosting a unique collection of brilliant minds sharing insights and learnings from some of their most admired projects.

First up we welcomed Nina Manadar, photographer and author of ‘What We Wore - A People’s History of British Style’. Nina’s photographs and mixed-media projects examine contemporary global youth identity. She took the audience through some of her favourite photos from the book, taking us down memory lane whilst showcasing just how our surroundings influence what we wear and how people have always used style as a way to express themselves.

Second to take to the stage was Bump Chemist, Distiller and Rectifier Max Chater. Max shared some secrets recipes and gave the audience a lesson in chemistry to show how he distills his own spirits for the BUMP Caves - using the rotary evaporator to create syrups, liquors, vermouths and infusions. A pioneer in his field, Max brings together outrageous flavour combinations and matches house-distilled and rectified spirits to an extreme beer list. During the break Max treated the audience to two of his signature cocktails - a true feast for the senses.

Bringing the evening to a close was Robin McNicholas from creative studio, Marshmallow Laser Feast, who gave us a mesmerising talk around 360º Storytelling. Marshmallow Laser Feast are behind some of the most intriguing immersive experiences of the recent past. Whether they’re using robotics, virtual reality, or real time mapping, these artists and creative technologists create highly emotional and human-driven experiences. Robin took us through various projects, including how they have taken the standard music video to another level by creating a virtual reality (VR) promo that can be experienced via VR headsets, mobiles, tablets and YouTube’s new 360º platform.

Ensuring that the talk was as immersive as their projects, Robin and his team then invited the audience to try out the latest VR gadgets and games, including the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and its accompanying Gear VR headset.

Thanks to all our speakers and to everyone who came along - watch this space for details of the next The ODD Occasion.
